This Twilight drinking game has two parts: a set of sip-and-shot rules that fire in every film of the saga (Edward stares, Bella bites her lip, someone runs impossibly fast), and a short rule set for each of the five movies, because New Moon is a different drinking experience from Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Around the rules is everything the night needs: a marathon schedule with the run times, the drinks to pour, the bonus challenges, the awards, and a couple of games for whoever at the party is not drinking.
The rules are written for a room of adults who have seen the films at least once. If your crowd has a first-timer, give them the first movie alone before you make them shoot for the Volturi.

The five films at a glance
| film | year | run time | the shot everyone remembers | the film’s own rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Twilight | 2008 | 2 h 2 min | “Say it. Out loud.” | sip every time the biology-class fan blows |
| New Moon | 2009 | 2 h 10 min | Jacob’s shirt comes off for the first time | sip for every month that passes in the empty-room shot |
| Eclipse | 2010 | 2 h 4 min | the tent: “I’m hotter than you” | sip whenever someone says “newborn” |
| Breaking Dawn – Part 1 | 2011 | 1 h 57 min | the headboard | sip for every feather |
| Breaking Dawn – Part 2 | 2012 | 1 h 55 min | the battle that never happened | sip every time someone says “Renesmee” |
Five films back to back are ten hours and eight minutes of running time. Nobody drinks through all of it; the schedule below says where the game runs and where it rests.
Before you start
- 21 and over, and everyone gets home. A designated Cullen who drives, or nobody drives. The alcohol-free versions of the drinks are real drinks, not punishments; the under-21 end of the couch plays the games at the bottom of the page.
- The pacing rule is the only rule that matters. If a second shot comes up within ten minutes, it becomes a sip. Water between every film. You want to reach Breaking Dawn – Part 2, not pass out during vampire baseball.
- Pick one film or three, not five. A one-film night with the full rules is a party. A five-film marathon with the full rules is a hospital. For a marathon, play the game through Twilight and New Moon, rest it through Eclipse, and bring it back for the wedding.
- Set the room first. Dim lights, blankets (for the cold ones among us), “Bella’s Lullaby” for the breaks, and the drinks poured before the Summit logo. The Forks-at-home decor is in its own post.

The rules that run in every film
The Twilight drinking game
Any film Sips and shotsSip when
- Edward does a long, silent stare (the Cullen Gaze)
- Bella bites her lip or says something awkward
- The Volvo or Bella's red truck is on screen
- It rains, or there is a moody forest shot
- Eyes get a close-up: gold, red, or going dark with thirst
- "Bella's Lullaby" or any piano plays
- Alice has a vision
- A wolf growls or the pack talks in its heads
- Anyone runs impossibly fast or sparkles
- Jacob appears for the first time in a film (cap: three per marathon)
- A steamy makeout that is not the first kiss
- A shirtless vampire (the wolves have their own rule)
- Bella mentions Arizona
Shoot when
- "Say it. Out loud." / "Vampire."
- Edward saves Bella: the parking lot, Port Angeles, any heroic catch
- The first kiss, or a proposal
- Jacob takes his shirt off
- A wolf transforms on screen
- Vampire baseball begins (cue "Supermassive Black Hole")
- The Volturi arrive as a group or hand down a verdict
- Someone imprints
- The wedding kiss, Bella waking up a vampire, or the first "Renesmee"
- The honeymoon
Pacing: a second shot within ten minutes is a sip. Water between films. The game rests through Eclipse on a marathon.

The sips are the texture of the saga: the stares, the lip, the rain, the piano. Thirteen of them means something fires every few minutes in every film, which is the point. The shots are the ten moments the whole room has been waiting for, and they are spread across five films, so a one-film night gets two or three of them and a marathon gets all ten. Jacob’s first appearance is capped at three sips a marathon because he is in every film and the rule would otherwise win the night on its own.

Film by film: the extra rules
The general rules run underneath all of these. Each film adds four or five of its own, plus one shot that only that film can give you.
Twilight (2008)
- Sip every time the fan in biology class blows Bella’s hair toward Edward.
- Sip when Bella researches vampires on a computer that takes a minute to load.
- Sip for “Hold on tight, spider monkey,” and again if anyone in the room says it first.
- Sip when Charlie cleans his gun.
- Shoot for the ballet studio: the moment James bites her.
New Moon (2009)
- Sip for the paper cut. Yes, the whole film starts with it.
- Sip for every month that passes in the spinning empty-room shot: October, November, December, January. Four sips; take them slowly.
- Sip when Bella does something dangerous to see ghost-Edward: the motorcycle, the cliff.
- Sip every time Jacob is shirtless after the first time (the first time is the general-rules shot).
- Shoot for “It’ll be as if I never existed,” and for the Volterra fountain.
Eclipse (2010)
- Sip whenever anyone says “newborn.”
- Sip for the recast Victoria, the first time she appears, in honour of the discussion the room is about to have.
- Sip when Jacob and Edward argue over Bella while she is standing right there.
- Sip for the graduation speech.
- Shoot for the tent: “I’m hotter than you.”
Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011)
- Sip for every feather.
- Sip each time someone says “the baby” or “the fetus” and the room winces.
- Sip when Bella drinks from the cup with the straw.
- Sip for Jacob’s shirt (it counts here too).
- Shoot for the wedding kiss, and for the imprint.
Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012)
- Sip every time anyone says “Renesmee,” and again if they pronounce it differently from the last person.
- Sip for Bella’s first hunt and the mountain lion.
- Sip when a new vampire with a new power is introduced (there are a lot; pace it).
- Sip for the arm-wrestling match with Emmett.
- Shoot for the battle: once when it starts, and once when you realise it did not happen.
Bonus challenges for true Twi-hards

- The Meadow Rule. During any meadow scene, everyone must dramatically declare their love for something random in the room before drinking.
- The Charlie Challenge. Whenever Charlie appears with his mustache of authority, the last person to yell “BELLS!” takes an extra sip.
- The Rosalie Rage. Every time Rosalie looks disgusted (so, often), everyone makes their best disgusted face. Worst impression drinks.
- The Emmett Energy. When Emmett makes a joke or flexes, flex back. Weakest flex drinks.
What to drink

The full bar is in the thirteen Twilight cocktails, each with an alcohol-free version underneath. For the game you need two kinds of glass: something in a pitcher for the sips, and one shot for the moments.
- For the sips, batched: Arizona Dream (the tequila sunrise Bella would order) or Bella’s Blush, made ahead in a pitcher, so nobody leaves the room during the baseball scene.
- For the shots: Wolf’s Bane, a Fireball shot with a cinnamon-sugar rim, as hot as a werewolf’s body temperature, or The Newborn for the wedding.
- For the room: one Vegetarian Vampire Bloody Mary on the table as a centrepiece, with extra celery, because they only drink animals.
- Alcohol-free: every one of those has a version without the alcohol on the same page; the sips work exactly the same with the mocktail in the glass.
The marathon schedule
Five films is ten hours and eight minutes of running time; with a break between each one it is a noon-to-midnight day. This is the schedule that gets a room through it.
| time | what | the game |
|---|---|---|
| 12:00 | Twilight (2 h 2 min) | full rules |
| 14:05 | break: the pizza, the mushroom ravioli, water | |
| 14:30 | New Moon (2 h 10 min) | full rules; the four months are the slow part |
| 16:45 | break: outside, daylight, more water | |
| 17:15 | Eclipse (2 h 4 min) | the game rests; sips only, no shots |
| 19:20 | dinner break, the long one | |
| 20:00 | Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (1 h 57 min) | full rules from the wedding |
| 22:00 | break | |
| 22:15 | Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (1 h 55 min) | full rules, the awards after the credits |
A one-film night is Twilight with the full rules and its five extra ones, and it ends at a reasonable hour. A three-film night is Twilight, New Moon and Breaking Dawn – Part 1, which is the love story without the middle.
Twilight games without the drinking
For the mixed room, the under-21 cousins, and the friend who is driving. All of these run alongside the drinking game on the same screen.
- Twilight bingo. Sixteen squares per card from the sip list above (rain, the truck, a stare, a lip bite, a vision); first full row wins, and the winner picks the next film.
- Quote or not. Someone reads a line; the room says whether it is from the film or made up. “Hold on tight, spider monkey” is real. “Bella, you are my personal brand of heroin” is real. Half the room will not believe you.
- Team Edward, Team Jacob, Team Charlie. Every guest declares a team at the door, and each team keeps its own score of the sip rules that belong to it (stares to Team Edward, shirts to Team Jacob, mustache to Team Charlie). Losing team clears the pizza boxes.
- The pacing referee. Give the non-drinking guest the ten-minute rule to enforce. They will enjoy it more than anyone.
End of marathon awards
- The Bella Swan Award: most awkward moment during drinking.
- The Edward Cullen Award: best brooding face after a shot.
- The Jacob Black Award: most layers removed.
- The Alice Cullen Award: best prediction of when a shot was coming.
- The Jasper Hale Award: most successful at controlling the room’s mood.

Questions people ask
How long is a Twilight marathon? Ten hours and eight minutes of film: 122, 130, 124, 117 and 115 minutes. With breaks, plan for twelve hours; noon to midnight is the usual shape.
What order do the movies go in? Twilight (2008), New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011), Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). Release order is story order; there is no other way to watch them.
Is there a drinking game for the first movie only? Yes: the general rules plus the five Twilight rules above. It gives you about three shots (the reveal, the parking lot, the ballet studio) and a sip every few minutes, which is a full evening.
Can it be played without alcohol? Every rule works with a sip of anything. The Twilight cocktails each have an alcohol-free version, and the games in the section above need no glass at all.
How many people does it need? Three is the minimum for the awards to mean anything; eight is the most one couch and one screen can take before the room stops watching the film.
