We’re back to the office area today so I can share how I added fun bulletin boards to that space. Last week I shared how I added a fun printable to that area that allowed me to bring in some color to my workspace. With gray floors, black counters and white cabinets, the area really needs color.
I wanted to add bulletin or cork board to the area to hold things like business cards, coupons, or tickets. Somewhere close and easily accessible so those items wouldn’t get lost. The wall space isn’t very large so purchasing a premade bulletin board wasn’t going to work.
I had bought this 4 pack of cork board squares at a garage sale for $.50 last year. I decided to stick with the blue colors I’ve already been adding all over the kitchen and office and thought it would look good to do sort of an ombre look. The chipboard or cardboard cutouts were found at hobby lobby. I bought 3 of the same shape although they had several shapes to choose from. The cutouts already have hanging slots on the back side.
I measured the cutout shapes to determine the size I would need to cut the cork. To cut the cork you need a really SHARP knife or blade, and a straight edge. After measuring and making marks for where to cut hold the straight edge firmly down on the cork and cut the cork, it may take a few passes to cut it all the way through. I didn’t do the straight edge the 1st time and it looked like I chewed it off….lesson learned.
Then I painted all the pieces in the 3 shades of blue that I chose.
After all the pieces were dry, I made marks for where the cork should be placed so it was centered on the cutout. Then I glued the pieces together. I decided to mix the colors of cork around so it wasn’t matching the painted cutout.
The office area is looking better and better. I still have a few more ideas of ways to add more color and organization and office stuff to this area to share with you.
Thanks for stopping by At Home with Sweet T!
