We have been really transforming my oldest daughter’s room to the perfect place for a teen girl to hang out. This week our work had a dramatic impact on the design. We added an Archery Stenciled Accent Wall with Cutting Edge Stencils. You may have caught a peek of this stenciled wall reflecting in the mirror of her new headboard. Between that headboard and dresser and now this wall her room is closer to being done and I feel like we have the major stuff out of the way.

We decided to do the wall where her desk and mirror will be as the accent wall. The stencil was really simple to do. We choose the Archery Allover Design to match our Boho Chic design style plan. Here’s the before of that wall. Remember we just painted her room white.

Before we started stenciling we watched Cutting Edge Stencil’s how to stencil video tutorial.  One of the first things we did when we started this make over was to paint all the walls white, we just used interior latex white paint with a satin finish. To achieve a great Boho Chic look, nothing can be matchy matchy but it will all look like it belongs in the end. My daughter decided on black for this stencil design since we were using color in so many other areas and the wall would be surrounded by lots of colors eventually too. We used black craft paint with the stencil, that’s it.

I apologize for the terrible pictures, her room is small and I need a better lens for these room shots. I will say too that you will be seeing more of this room as we finish up the desk, and add more decorative touches including a great idea for a wall mirror.

It’s been awhile since I’ve stenciled a wall, in fact it was for Lissy’s nursery so over 13 years ago. That job was tough then, I was using a handmade stencil. The stencil and tools from Cutting Edge Stencils were easy to use. They have a level that fits on the top of your stencil-genius! I felt more comfortable using the stencil brush with a more pounce technique than with the roller. When you paint a wall it’s ok to load the roller heavy with paint, not so much when you are rolling over a stencil. I struggled with only lightly loading the roller. But that’s ok, the brush worked out perfect!

You have to see all the stencils Cutting Edge Stencils has to offer-start here with the new designs.  Be sure to check out the pillow kits too, that’s what I want to try next. For loads of inspiration you’ll want to read their blog too. Leave a comment below to tell me what stencil is your favorite(s).
